In a landmark cybersecurity operation codenamed “Taken Down,” international law enforcement agencies have successfully dismantled one of the world’s largest illegal IPTV networks. The criminal enterprise, which served over 22 million users globally, generated an astronomical monthly revenue of €250 million, accumulating to approximately €3 billion annually through unauthorized content distribution.
Unprecedented Multi-National Cybercrime Investigation
The operation culminated from a sophisticated two-year investigation led by Italian Postal Police and cybersecurity services, with crucial support from Eurojust, Europol, and multiple European law enforcement agencies. The operation’s scope was remarkable, involving 270 law enforcement officers conducting 89 searches across 15 Italian regions and 14 additional raids across seven countries, including the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania, Croatia, and China.
Sophisticated Criminal Infrastructure and Operations
The illegal streaming network operated through a complex hierarchical structure encompassing content suppliers, distributors, resellers, and vendors. The organization systematically intercepted and redistributed content from major streaming platforms, including Sky, DAZN, Mediaset, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount. Their technological infrastructure utilized advanced encryption protocols and sophisticated identity concealment methods to evade detection.
Technical Infrastructure Dismantlement and Asset Seizure

Law enforcement authorities successfully deactivated over 2,500 illegal channels and servers, including nine major server nodes located in Romania and Hong Kong. Investigators identified three primary service administrators and executed 11 arrest warrants. The operation also led to the seizure of cryptocurrency assets valued at €1.65 million and €40,000 in cash.
