Samba

Samba is a popular open-source software suite that enables file and printer sharing between computers running Linux/Unix and Windows operating systems on the same network.

Samba implements the SMB (Server Message Block) and CIFS (Common Internet File System) network protocols, which are used in Windows for resource sharing. This allows Linux/Unix systems to “masquerade” as Windows servers and provide access to files and printers for Windows clients.

For example, with Samba, you can set up a Linux server as a file storage that Windows users can access as if it were a regular Windows share. Or you can connect a printer to a Linux machine and share it with Windows clients.

Samba is widely used for integrating Linux/Unix and Windows systems, providing convenient and seamless data exchange in heterogeneous networks.
